A Pathway for Sustainable Agriculture

چکیده
Expanding populations, the impacts of climate change, availability arable land, and water for irrigation collectively strain agricultural system. To keep pace adapt to these challenges, food producers may adopt unsustainable practices that ultimately intensify strain. What is a course technological evolution adoption can break this cycle? In paper we explore set technologies production scenarios with new, reduced-order model. First model developed. The combines limitations in sustainable supply, productivity as function intensification, rising demands. Model inputs are derived from literature historical records. Monte Carlo simulation runs used potential existing future bring us ever closer more instead farther. This concept moving sustainability horizon (the year where be achieved current progress if demand remains constant). gap number years between present horizon. As increases, moves farther into future. technology improves present. Sustainability, therefore, when collides present, closing zero. We find one pathway management innovation closes within model’s outputs. scenario, micro-irrigation adoption, minimal change impacts, reduced waste, additional transformative innovations such smart greenhouses agrivoltaic systems needed. shows that, absence changes, continuing along our course, system would become insufficient decade following 2050.

Monsanto: partnering for sustainable agriculture
Monsanto is driven by a global commitment to sustainable agricultural production. This commitment includes bringing technologies to farmers that improve their lives by helping them be more productive while using fewer resources–leading to a reduced overall effect on the environment. By using this commitment to drive our actions, we believe we are creating a positive impact on our world. But, we...
متن کاملIntegrated Pest Management Farmer Field School for Sustainable Agriculture
The study was conducted among the two farmer groups in Bhaktapur and Kavre districts of Nepal. The main objective of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of IPM FFS on creating awareness and disseminating the knowledge on sustainable pest management to the farmers and to assess the relationships between enhanced IPM knowledge and adoption of IPM strategies by the farmers. The study has be...
متن کاملAgrometeorology and sustainable agriculture
Current concerns with the sustainability of agroecosystems in different parts of the world have hightened the awareness for careful use of the natural resource base on which agriculture depends. For proper and efficient use of soils and plant/animal genetic material, knowledge of the role of climate is an essential precondition. Several elements of the chapters in Agenda 21, a global plan of ac...
متن کاملParaquat and sustainable agriculture.
Sustainable agriculture is essential for man's survival, especially given our rapidly increasing population. Expansion of agriculture into remaining areas of natural vegetation is undesirable, as this would reduce biodiversity on the planet. Maintaining or indeed improving crop yields on existing farmed land, whether on a smallholder scale or on larger farms, is thus necessary. One of the limit...
متن کاملIs rangeland agriculture sustainable?
The objective of this paper is to examine the sustainability of rangeland agriculture (i.e., managed grazing) on a world-wide basis, with a focus on North America. Sustainability is addressed on three fronts: 1) ecological, 2) economic, and 3) social acceptance. Based on previous and on-going research, we suggest that employment of science-based rangeland grazing management strategies and tacti...
